Human Heredity and Health in Africa (H3Africa)

Builds a pan-continental network to study environmental and genetic health factors

The Human Heredity and Health in Africa (H3Africa) Initiative aims to build a pan-continental network of laboratories, biobanks, and research teams to study the complex interplay between environmental and genetic factors. The goal is to build capacity, learn more about disease susceptibility and drug responses, and ultimately improve health in African populations. H3Africa creates new data, links genomic and clinical studies, and creates necessary research infrastructure.

Funding for H3Africa comes from the NIH Common Fund and the Wellcome Trust (funded through the Science for Africa Foundation).
