Two GA4GH products now open for public comment

Experiments Metadata Standard and Whole Genome Sequencing Quality Control Standard are now open for public comment. During this period, we invite feedback from all members of the genomics and health community. Comments are due by 15 August 2025.

Experiments Metadata Standard

When a researcher downloads a genomic dataset from a sequencing experiment, the files contain little information on the nature of the experiment itself. Metadata explaining the context of the data is vital to help researchers understand the results from an experiment. Experiments Metadata Standard provides a minimal checklist of metadata needed to characterise -omics datasets, along with a dictionary of properties. Learn more about this open call.

Whole Genome Sequencing Quality Control Standard

Despite growing efforts to share whole genome sequencing (WGS) data across research and clinical initiatives, the lack of standardised quality control definitions and methodologies remains a major barrier. WGSQC provides a structured set of formally defined quality control metrics and usage guidelines for short-read germline WGS data. These standards aim to establish a common foundation for quality assessment, enabling consistent reporting, improved interoperability, and greater confidence in WGS data integrity across initiatives.
