New Product in Action: Greater Bay Area Bioinformatics Center leverages GA4GH standards to navigate data sovereignty and advance genomic research in China

4 Aug 2026

In this Product in Action blog post, the Greater Bay Area Bioinformatics Center showcases how its Biomedical Big Data Operating System (Bio-OS) implements GA4GH standards to enable standardised, federated genomic research in China.

Bio-OS is an open-source “biological operating system” framework designed from the ground up to implement GA4GH standards, including the Data Repository Service (DRS), Tool Registry Service (TRS), Workflow Execution Service (WES), Task Execution Service (TES), and Passports. By leveraging GA4GH Federated Analysis Work Stream APIs, the platform can interoperate and act as a federated network — allowing researchers to analyse data across multiple deployed nodes, without transferring data.

This implementation story shows how GA4GH technical standards and policy frameworks ensure international genomics collaboration to deliver global health benefits. Read the blog post here.
