Study Groups define needs. Participants survey the landscape of the genomics and health community and determine whether GA4GH can help.
Work Streams create products. Community members join together to develop technical standards, policy frameworks, and policy tools that overcome hurdles to international genomic data use.
GIF solves problems. Organisations in the forum pilot GA4GH products in real-world situations. Along the way, they troubleshoot products, suggest updates, and flag additional needs.
GIF Projects are community-led initiatives that put GA4GH products into practice in real-world scenarios.
The GIF AMA programme produces events and resources to address implementation questions and challenges.
NIF finds challenges and opportunities in genomics at a global scale. National programmes meet to share best practices, avoid incompatabilities, and help translate genomics into benefits for human health.
Communities of Interest find challenges and opportunities in areas such as rare disease, cancer, and infectious disease. Participants pinpoint real-world problems that would benefit from broad data use.
The Technical Alignment Subcommittee (TASC) supports harmonisation, interoperability, and technical alignment across GA4GH products.

Peter Goodhand, CEO of GA4GH, and Heidi Rehm, Chair of GA4GH, ask for the support of the GA4GH community to help secure the future of the organisation.
Dear GA4GH Community,
The Global Alliance for Genomics and Health (GA4GH) has grown into a global force, driving transformative change in genomics and health. We are pleased to share GA4GH’s inaugural annual report, and we ask that you join us in celebrating and reflecting upon the successes the community achieved over the last year. Together, we have built standards that power real-world implementations and fostered groundbreaking collaborations.
However, this growth comes with a reality we can no longer ignore: to sustain and amplify our impact, we urgently need to expand our funding model. Therefore, we are asking for your support.
The advancements we have made over the last several years were thanks to the generosity of core funders, Host Institutions, and supporting funders. Their contributions have been invaluable, but the funding landscape is shifting. The traditional model of relying on a few core funders is crumbling under the weight of global demands. To thrive, GA4GH must evolve.
In a current geopolitical climate marked by increasing global tensions, economic uncertainty, and shifting priorities, scientific collaboration faces unprecedented challenges. Strengthening our financial foundation is not just about sustainability; it is about safeguarding the principles of collaboration, innovation, and equity that are the bedrock of our mission.
We are now calling on every member of the GA4GH community to play an active role in securing GA4GH’s future. This may mean contributing financial support, in-kind contributions, or both. We may soon introduce membership fees for corporate members, but today, we are asking for immediate financial commitments. Contributions can be allocated to sustain and advance specific programmes, support key meetings, or provide discretionary funding to address critical operations and personnel.
Organisations committing $25,000 USD or more (including Full Time Equivalents, as part of the Assigned Expert Programme) will join the GA4GH Funders Forum, a pivotal group that helps shape our long-term financial sustainability. This is more than just funding; it is a seat at the table where decisions about GA4GH’s future are made.
Your support will help us continue the momentum we have worked so hard to build. With your contributions, we can ensure GA4GH not only survives but thrives, and that we continue to lead the global charge in genomic data sharing and health innovation.
Let’s secure our future — together.
You can register your interest in contributing to GA4GH by completing this brief form. You are also welcome to respond to this email or contact either of us directly to discuss how your organisation can contribute.
Sincerely,
Peter Goodhand
