Data Visiting

This group further evaluates the concept of Data Visiting to help navigate the legal challenges that exist.

Data visiting is a form of data sharing in which an analysis is performed on shared data within the provider’s computing environment, through human or computational agents. This allows researchers to work with data securely without moving it across borders. Despite its potential, data visiting faces implementation challenges, as countries have different legal regulations around whether data visiting or its variations constitutes cross-border transfer. Formed by the Regulatory & Ethics Work Stream, the Data Visiting group aims to evaluate the legal challenges associated with data visiting in order to develop a data visiting agreement template and implementation guidance. The group has developed a Data Visiting Lexicon and published a manuscript on the terms in Human Genomics. The group is currently analysing data visiting models and practices employed by different institutions.
