Learn more about and share your feedback on the Experiments Metadata Standard.

The Experiments Metadata Standard is now open for public comment. During this period, we invite feedback from all members of the genomics and health community. Comments are due by 15 August 2025.

When a researcher downloads a genomic dataset from a sequencing experiment, the files contain little information on the nature of the experiment itself. Metadata explaining the context of the data is vital to help researchers understand the results from an experiment. Experiments Metadata Standard provides a minimal checklist of metadata needed to characterise -omics datasets, along with a dictionary of properties.
