DUO Workshop

The GA4GH Data Use and Researcher Identities Work Stream will host an interactive workshop on Thursday May 6 at 12:00 UTC to support the genomics and health community in implementing the GA4GH Data Use Ontology (DUO)

DUO allows users to semantically tag genomic datasets with usage restrictions, allowing them to become automatically discoverable based on a health, clinical, or biomedical researcher’s authorization level or intended use. DUO is based on the OBO Foundry principles and developed using the W3C Web Ontology Language. DUO is currently used in production by the European Genome-phenome Archive (EGA) at EMBL-EBI/CRG, the Broad Institute, Wellcome Sanger Institute, Australian Genomics, ELIXIR, and several other institutions across the globe.

During the DUO Workshop, attendees can:

  1. Learn more about DUO and current DUO implementations
  2. Participate in a hands-on duo-tagging session to support translation of their own consent forms or data sharing policies into DUO terms
  3. Share feedback on DUO usage to inform future versions of DUO

This workshop is designed for individuals looking to implement DUO on their controlled access datasets. To get the most out of the workshop, the DUO team encourages attendees to submit their current consent forms or data sharing policies while registering for the Workshop. Please register early, as space is limited for this workshop. If you have any questions, please reach out to info [at] www.ga4gh.org.

The DUO Workshop is part of a larger series of webinars hosted by the Genomics in Health Implementation Forum (GHIF), aimed at facilitating the implementation of GA4GH standards. To learn more about future webinars, including an upcoming Webinar on the Variation Representation Specification (VRS), please visit the GHIF webpage.
