GA4GH Passports

GA4GH Passports and Passport Visas provide a standard way of communicating a user's data access authorizations based on either their role (e.g. researcher), affiliation, or access status.

To leverage the vast genomic data and computational resources available today, data access and its ability to scale are crucial. Without standardization, Data Access Committees (DACs) must grant access to research datasets on a project basis—a timely process in which a researcher’s identity must be validated and verified each time she requests access to data. The GA4GH Passports specification works in conjunction with the Authentication & Authorization Infrastructure (AAI) to reliably authenticate a researcher’s digital identity and automate their access to a requested genomic dataset.
